This service is designed to provide support to the older person and/or those concerned with the care of older persons, by providing access or information on a broad range of services in response to the needs of the elderly client.  The client's needs are determined based on client request and/or agency assessment.  The objective is to educate elderly clients as to the services available within the community and the methods of access in order to promote the client's well being, and encourage ongoing independence.  Aspects include client assessments, client education, and referral assistance.  Care Management  includes the collection and maintenance of information on community resources and service providers of interest/importance to older adults.

Clients must be 60 years of age or older, or be the caregiver of a family member who is 60 years or older.

The program also provides group presentations in the community. BEDFORD RIDE

Bedford Ride is dedicated to improving the quality of life for Bedford citizens by providing better access to non-emergency medical services.

Residents of communities served may be eligible for Bedford Ride non-emergency medical transportation services if they have no other practical means of transportation available and if they are disabled, elderly, or low-income.

Once eligibility has been established and a medical appointment has been made, passengers contact the office staff to arrange for transportation.  Transportation request must be made a minimum of two days in advance.  Medical appointments should be scheduled between 8:30 am and 3:00 pm.

Our direct expenses are very low thanks to our many volunteer drivers.  Passengers receiving transportation are asked to pay a small fee to help cover a portion of our operating costs.

Bedford Ride is administered by the Central Virginia Area Agency on Aging, but obtains significant volunteer support from independent volunteer leadership boards in various parts of the county.
